Fund lineage lets you tag money as it enters a balance, then see which providers still have funds available when you spend. Use it when you need to know not only the balance total, but the mix of sources inside it (for example Stripe vs PayPal). For how Core tags funds, allocates debits, and stores lineage, read Fund lineage tracking.

Enable lineage on a balance

Turn lineage on when you create the balance. You cannot add it later to a balance that already exists.
1

Open create balance

Go to Balances and click Create balance, or press ⌥ + B (Alt + B on Windows).
2

Turn on lineage

Under Advanced options, enable Enable lineage tracking.Pick an allocation strategy for later debits:
  • FIFO: spend the oldest tagged funds first
  • LIFO: spend the newest tagged funds first
  • PROPORTIONAL: spread the debit across tagged funds
Cloud also turns on Assign an owner. Lineage requires an identity on the balance.

3

Create the balance

Choose the identity, then click Create balance.

Tag a credit

Set the lineage-enabled balance as the destination first. Cloud only shows Lineage tag after that. If the destination does not have lineage, the control stays hidden.
1

Create a credit

Go to Transactions and click Create transaction. Set the lineage-enabled balance as the destination.
2

Add a provider tag

Under Advanced options, turn on Lineage tag and enter a provider name (for example stripe or paypal). Cloud sets BLNK_LINEAGE_PROVIDER in metadata.

3

Create the transaction

Complete the amount and source as usual, then click Create transaction.
If you omit the tag, the credit still posts. It does not join lineage tracking.

Spend from a lineage balance

When you spend from that balance, create a normal debit. Leave Lineage tag off. Cloud applies the allocation strategy you chose on the balance (FIFO, LIFO, or PROPORTIONAL). To see how that spend was split, open the debit. Use Fund lineage for the amount from each provider, and Shadow transactions for the internal rows Core created to track it.

Where to read the breakdown

The Fund lineage section appears only when lineage is enabled on that balance or debit. Other balances and transactions stay unchanged. To see totals, available, and spent per provider, open the lineage-enabled balance. The details page also shows the allocation strategy (for example FIFO).

To see how a spend was split, open that debit. Use Fund lineage for the amount from each provider, and Shadow transactions for the internal rows Core created to track it.

Filter lineage balances

On the Balances table, add filters for:
  • Track fund lineage to list balances with lineage on or off
  • Allocation strategy to list FIFO, LIFO, or PROPORTIONAL
See Add filters.
